A bit lighter than "light" posting

yes, the posting gaps have been increasing and, yes, part of that is due to the usual ennui... however, more than that has been the intensity of the work i've been doing here in afghanistan... i actually have my hands on one of the biggest, most complex, most challenging, most potentially positively impactful projects i've ever had the opportunity to tackle...

i developed a soft spot in my heart for this country and the afghan people shortly after i started coming here in early 2008 and if i can in any way make a positive contribution on behalf of these lovely people, i will do it - and i think i've been handed that chance...

i'd love to tell you more but it would be inappropriate for me to be telling tales out of school, dontcha know...

meanwhile, i'll keep putting stuff up here as i can... today - friday - is my one day "weekend" so you can look for a least a few things...

Back in San Jose and dead on my butt

the drive to the ontario airport this morning was smooth and fast... i was amazed at the volume of traffic on the riverside freeway headed in to la at 5 a.m... bumper-to-bumper and slow-and-go at that time of the morning was strange to see to say nothing of the sinking feeling i get with fossil-fuel burners as far as the eye can see...

the single line for security at the ontario airport had well over 150 people standing in it and cooling their heels when i rolled in at 5:45 and it took me 35+ minutes to get through... if that's the usual tsa morning routine there, they've got a serious problem... gate agents were making continuous pages for passengers who hadn't yet boarded departing flights who were no doubt somewhere in the line... fortunately, i left myself enough time...

i'm in the san jose airport waiting for my friend's flight to arrive from lax in about 20 minutes...

another light posting day, i'm afraid...

More ennui

altho' i've got a better excuse today... i'm in the san jose airport awaiting a flight to the la area after getting up early this morning and driving over donner pass in slush and spitting snow and rain... i'm back here early tomorrow morning to meet a friend who's flying in from central america and we're going to spend a few days over on the monterey peninsula... should be fun...

Job opening of the day...? Week...? Month...? Year...?

wouldn't have believed it if i hadn't seen it with my own two eyes...

(i'm not identifying the organization because 1), it happens to be one i actually respect and 2), they don't deserve the ridicule... (or maybe they do...)

Celebrity Relationship Manager

[Organization X] is developing a celebrity engagement program to raise our profile and boost fundraising efforts, primarily in the US and UK. This program aims to build donor loyalty, attract new donors, increase unrestricted donations, and build an understanding of [Organization X's] unique work and brand. The celebrity engagement program will reside in the agency’s Resource Development department, which is responsible for private fundraising, marketing and communications.

GENERAL POSITION SUMMARY:

The Celebrity Relationship Manager (CRM) implements [Organization X's] celebrity engagement strategy to raise the agency’s profile and boost fundraising efforts. This work will include developing and nurturing a small group of celebrity “ambassadors” who are engaged on specific campaigns or issues, coordinating celebrity participation in a diverse Board of Advisors, and ultimately overseeing celebrity involvement in corporate cause marketing relationships. The CRM will work across RD teams – including communications, internet marketing, marketing, and major and mid-level gifts – to most productively leverage celebrity relationships. The CRM will report to the ... director of communications.

great jumping jeebus... they've even hatched an acronym - CRM - to describe the position... i developed a headache just WRITING this post...

It's been one heckuva busy day

it's not often that i don't get posts up because i simply don't have time... usually it due to one of three other things - burn-out over the constant stream of nauseating news, no news worth posting, or i'm stuck in an airplane somewhere at 35,000 feet... today was unusual in that i was on a dead run from early 'til late, and i'm so worn out at the moment, i just don't have the energy to post... maybe jim or brother tim will be moved to jump in but i'm just going to have to say good night (and, yes, i realize the day is just getting underway in the u.s.)...

chauuuuuuuu y abrazos a todos...

Light posting day

it's 8:10 p.m. saturday evening here in kabul, 8:40 a.m. saturday morning on the u.s. west coast, 9:40 a.m. u.s. mountain time, 10:40 a.m. u.s. central time, 11:40 a.m. on the u.s. east coast, 12:40 p.m. in argentina, and 5:40 p.m. central european time... that pretty much covers the times zones of the people near and dear to me...

it's been a very sunny, slow and lazy day for me... my one-day "weekend" is friday but this week, tomorrow and sunday are afghan national holidays because, as i explained in a previous post, sunday is afghanistan independence day, the day afghanistan celebrates getting rid of the brits in 1919...

in celebration of actually having a decent amount of time to refresh and re-charge (altho' i will keep working on and off anyway as is my wont), i'm not going to knock myself out posting... for one thing, my internet service was down all morning and half the afternoon, which forced me to do some unaccustomed leisure reading and - no kidding - to lie in the sun for an hour or so on the balcony... it was just the ticket and i've slowed my pace considerably... this is a very good thing because it's the first time i've actually seriously kicked back since before i left buenos aires on march 24...

so...

if brother tim or jim is so moved, they can put up some posts... for me, i'm going to go read some more and then hit the sack...

p.s. check out how my colleagues and i arrange skype conference call times...
