Candidates, if a yellow-bellied turtle developed a respiratory infection, where would you turn?

it's been a while since i've posted an opus... with the silly election season upon us, mr. breathed is offering up his usual trenchant observations...

The "seductive mental quicksand of midlife" = Republican

today's opus...

unbelievable as it seems to me, i will be turning 60 in three weeks... yes, that's SIXTY...! SIX-OH...! i calculated my virtual age a few weeks ago and it came up 47 which, oddly enough, is pretty much how old i am feeling... all of the stereotypes of that particular age flash through my mind but absolutely none of them seem to fit... unlike opus, i don't think i will be registering as a republican any time soon...

Opus apologies

for anyone who might have inferred that opus would become a regular sunday feature here, i apologize... i should have made it clear from the get-go... as much as i love berkeley breathed, his cartoon skills, opus and the whole gang, i will only share strips that strike my fancy... needless to say, not all of them do...

for those who would still like an opus fix, here's a link to today's offering...

Understanding Fred Thompson

i said some time ago how truly delighted i was to see berkeley breathed and his extraordinary talent re-emerging in salon... so, after going and shooting off my big mouth, i haven't been all that dedicated a follower since then, and proceeded to miss this one, but, thankfully, atrios grabbed me by the ear and pointed me in the right direction... i won't attempt to post it here... you'll just have to go look for yourselves...

Oh, happy day!

i just found out something that has not only made my day but my sundays for weeks to come... berkeley breathed, my all-time most favorite cartoonist and personal hero, is joining salon as it's sunday cartoonist... i have been an opus and bill the cat addict for many, many years, and it was a dark day when mr. breathed hung up his tools and retired bloom county and its successor strip, outland... this is good news indeed...!
Editor's note: This week Salon is proud to launch Berkeley Breathed's "Opus" as a new weekly feature.

It's been almost 18 years since "Bloom County" ended, but Berkeley Breathed is still cartooning full speed ahead. He made his name with that Pulitzer Prize-winning 1980-89 daily comic strip; since then, he's left and returned to the comics page twice (first with "Outland," more recently with "Opus"), sticking to full-color Sunday strips that give his artwork more room to stretch.

i can only hope that bill the cat joins opus from time to time...
