Oh, happy day!

i just found out something that has not only made my day but my sundays for weeks to come... berkeley breathed, my all-time most favorite cartoonist and personal hero, is joining salon as it's sunday cartoonist... i have been an opus and bill the cat addict for many, many years, and it was a dark day when mr. breathed hung up his tools and retired bloom county and its successor strip, outland... this is good news indeed...!
Editor's note: This week Salon is proud to launch Berkeley Breathed's "Opus" as a new weekly feature.

It's been almost 18 years since "Bloom County" ended, but Berkeley Breathed is still cartooning full speed ahead. He made his name with that Pulitzer Prize-winning 1980-89 daily comic strip; since then, he's left and returned to the comics page twice (first with "Outland," more recently with "Opus"), sticking to full-color Sunday strips that give his artwork more room to stretch.

i can only hope that bill the cat joins opus from time to time...
