Saturday photo and videoblogging from last Sunday and yesterday

yes, folks, it's a TWO-COUNTRY bonus...!

last sunday, my landlady and i went to one of my favorite spots, feria mataderos, in barrio mataderos, buenos aires... i wanted to pick up a few things to bring back to the states and also to soak in the essence of argentina one more time before flying out the next day... after enjoying the fair proper, we adjourned to an adjacent park where there is always plenty of things going on, people enjoying picnics, pick-up games of fútbol, and, of course, music, always music... off to the side, there were a bunch of folks dancing murga and i managed to get a decent video clip...



for the uninitiated, here's a little about murga...

Murga is a form of popular musical theatre performed primarily in Montevideo, Uruguay during the Carnival season. A different sort of Murga groups ... also operate in Argentina (mainly during Buenos Aires Carnival), though to a much lesser extent, and the main difference is that Argentinian murga centers around dancing, and not vocals, as Uruguayan murga does.

now that i'm back in northern nevada, i'm enjoying the regular first-rate sky show of clouds and colors at sunset... here's a few from last evening...



if you look closely at both photos above and below, you will be able to see faint traces of turquoise and pink in the cloud formation...



and, of course, what would a northern nevada photoblogging session, particularly posted by ME, be without a sunset...?

Video-blogging, Feria Mataderos, Buenos Aires

yeah, ok... it's taken me a week to put this up... (see previous post...)

a friend and I visited feria mataderos last sunday... in winter, the fair starts about noon and closes up shortly after dark... these two guitar players were the second to the last performers and, boy, were they good...! the guitar player on the right had been playing world-class flamenco guitar and then decided to amaze and delight everybody with his prowess... i wish my camera was able to take longer video clips...

Sunday videoblogging: Feria Mataderos, Buenos Aires

two friends and i decided to visit the feria mataderos last evening... i had been there once before over a year ago, and had been quite impressed, but last evening falls into that rare category of "peak experience"...

i have always had a warm spot in my heart for latin america, mostly due to an indefinable quality that i can only call corazón, which, literally translated, of course, means "heart," but also means "core"... if the feria mataderos experience can be defined, i would have to call it the corazón or core of argentina, and, indeed, of latin america...

what you will see in these video clips is, to me, the very core of argentina - happy people, música, baile (dancing), families, old, young, food, drink, traditional crafts, classic colonial setting, and the smell of the omnipresent argentine parillada (b-b-q) wafting through the air...

(in the last clip, keep your eye on the older, balding gentleman in the blue shirt... he is an amazing dancer and he was having SO much fun...)
