"Testy" Obama can kiss my ass

"praised by republican opponents and denounced by liberal democrats"... great god almighty... can you even believe this guy...?
Testy Obama fires back at Democrats over tax deal

A testy President Barack Obama on Tuesday expressed frustration at his own Democrats for attacking him over his tax-cut deal with Republicans, who he called uncompromising "hostage takers."

Obama found himself in an unusual position a day after sealing a major tax-cut agreement -- praised by Republican opponents and denounced by liberal Democrats who felt he violated a pledge that helped get him elected in 2008.

obama lost me within six months of him taking office when it became apparent that the common good wasn't a factor in his consciousness...

Only AFTER giving handouts to the super-rich elites, do we NOW consider using TARP for jobs

sheesh... how low can we go...? using federal bailout money to bailout REAL people who really NEED it... f*****g commie socialists...
During a speech about the economy next week, President Obama is likely to endorse using some of the government's $700 billion financial bailout for a new jobs-creation program, the White House said Friday.

"The president thinks we should and must do everything in our power to create an environment for job growth and job creation," press secretary Robert Gibbs said. When asked whether Obama will talk on Tuesday about the use of bailout funds, Gibbs said, "I think that's likely."

this week's unemployment report is being trumpeted as if it was the second coming but let's not forget, REAL unemployment is still pushing toward 20%, foreclosures have shown no signs of slowing down, and the middle class in the u.s. is still swirling the drain...

What a load of shit - "Despite the apparent end of the Great Recession" [UPDATE]

[BUMPED]

if it's all the same to you, nyt, i'd like to know just who the F-U-C-K this "Great Recession" has "apparently ended" FOR...?
The American unemployment rate surged to 10.2 percent in October, its highest level in 26 years, as the economy lost another 190,000 jobs, the Labor Department reported Friday.

The jump into the realm of double-digit joblessness — from 9.8 percent in September — provided a sobering reminder that, despite the apparent end of the Great Recession, economic expansion has yet to translate into jobs, leaving tens of millions of people still struggling.

it ain't over for you, it ain't over for me, and it sure as SHIT ain't over for those poor bastards desperate for work and not finding it...

[UPDATE]

oh, yeah, let's hear it for 17.5%... what a cool number...! much more mind-blowing than 10.2%, wouldn't you agree...?
For all the pain caused by the Great Recession, the job market still was not in as bad shape as it had been during the depths of the early 1980s recession — until now.

With the release of the jobs report on Friday, the broadest measure of unemployment and underemployment tracked by the Labor Department has reached its highest level in decades. If statistics went back so far, the measure would almost certainly be at its highest level since the Great Depression.

In all, more than one out of every six workers — 17.5 percent — were unemployed or underemployed in October. The previous recorded high was 17.1 percent, in December 1982.

kee-f'ing-rist... so much for that vaunted "recovery"...

Here's some job loss figures to choke on

if this doesn't make you snort coffee out your nose, i don't know what will...
Job cut announcements by U.S. employers soared to 241,749 in January, up 45% from December's 166,348 cuts, according to Challenger. That was the highest number of job cuts since January 2002.

Layoffs rose 222% - more than triple - from January 2008, when 74,986 job cuts were announced.

and here's the most deeply ironic part of this horrible news that they have the absolute gall to label a "bright spot"...
"If there is any bright spot in the latest job-cut data, it is the fact that financial firms announced only 1,458 job cuts in January. That is the lowest one-month total for that industry since 2005," said [John Challenger, chief executive officer of Challenger, Gray & Christmas].

do ya s'pose that just MIGHT be due to the trillions of dollars being thrown at the financial services industry by us, the poor bastards whose pockets it's coming out of...?

Employers cut 533K jobs in Nov., most in 34 years

By JEANNINE AVERSA, AP Economics Writer Jeannine Aversa

WASHINGTON – Skittish employers slashed 533,000 jobs in November, the most in 34 years, catapulting the unemployment rate to 6.7 percent, dramatic proof the country is careening deeper into recession.

The new figures, released by the Labor Department Friday, showed the crucial employment market deteriorating at an alarmingly rapid clip, and handed Americans some more grim news right before the holidays.

on tuesday, the day after i got back, i went in for a haircut... i was talking with the woman cutting my hair and asked how business was going... i was treated to a long dissertation about how rotten business was and just how worried all the shop employees were about having enough money for the upcoming holidays and even about keeping their jobs... the next evening, i stopped by a fast food place on my way to teach my class and overheard several of the employees there talking about the same thing... when you've got minimum-wage, front-line service employees in a twitter right before christmas, you know things are getting bad out there...

Employers dumping employees at a record rate - 63K jobs cut in Feb - and FRB considers a FULL POINT rate cut

oopsies... atrios wins again...
The economy unexpectedly shed 63,000 jobs in February, the government said on Friday, fueling fears of a recession as manufacturers and construction companies cut their work forces amid the continuing housing crisis.

It was the fastest fall-off in the labor market in five years, and the report raised anticipation on Wall Street that the Federal Reserve will lower interest rates again later this month. Some investors are now predicting a more drastic cut of a full percentage point.

[...]

The private sector lost 101,000 jobs last month, the biggest drop-off in five years. Retail, construction and factory jobs were hit hardest.

if the fed cuts interest rates by a full point, it will be a sign to everyone that we are in ever so much more serious shit than we are being told, which, of course, anybody paying the slightest bit of attention has already figured out...
