Have a laugh...!

here's a really popular video clip off the net... i don't usually bite on these things, but there is absolutely nothing happier in the world than a laughing baby, and, hey, let's face it... ALL of us can ALWAYS use a good laugh... laughter is the light of the world...

It is to laugh

atrios has a post up entitled "my formative years"... while it's really a dig on some of the 80s taste-free popular culture, i just had to laugh reading the title... i turned 60 last december and, without a doubt, i am STILL in my "formative years..." i simply cannot recall a single year out of the past twenty-seven (and, yes, that is a very consciously-chosen number) that i haven't looked back on the prior year and marveled at how much i had learned in such a short time... and, yes, that leads directly to the inescapable conclusion that, for the better part of my life, i had my head firmly wedged where the sun does not usually shine...

A Thursday evening larf *

never - i repeat, NEVER - let facts get in the way of your strongly-held beliefs...
A British comedian tells the following story:

"I was in a taxi early on a Sunday and the cab-driver started talking about how homosexuality was immoral. I was fed up with this and so I said I didn't know how useful hard and fast concepts of morality were in discussing this kind of issue. I then elaborated on societies, such as the ancient Greeks or the Zunis, where, far from being subhuman, homosexuality was actually viewed as a higher, more profound form of love, so all our ideas about its degeneracy may actually be bound-up in our own cultural context. The cab driver then said: ‘Well, you can prove anything with facts, can't you?'"

fortunately, most of the cab drivers i speak with don't have their heads quite so far up...

* from the urban dictionary...

1. Larf

a good time, or a good idea

Sounds like a larf.

2. Larf

to laugh in olden times

Let's go to the comedy pub and have ourselves a larf.

Will Durst on Karl Rove: "Proof that Satan and the Pillsbury Doughboy had more than just a passing acquaintance”

from the nyt...
[T]he crowning moment is likely to remain intact.

It comes at the end and ties the package together, making it a show rather than just a stand-up comedy routine: a tirade of adjectives that will have any Bush loyalists who accidentally wandered into the room under their seats, and everyone else out of theirs, cheering.

here's a video clip - thanks to alternet - of what they're talking about...

i haven't seen such verbal agility since the old fedex commercial...
