YES, let's have another war for oil, the only thing that gives these bastards wet dreams

whether they're operating under the umbrella of PNAC or the FPI, these are truly evil people who, as sincere in their beliefs as i'm sure they are, wouldn't hesitate to kill a few thousand more people in libya than gaddafi has already killed in order to get their greedy hands on libya's oil resources... the fact that they would do it in the name of avoiding a "moral and humanitarian catastrophe" is all the more nauseatingly hypocritical...
U.S.:Neo-Con Hawks Take Flight over Libya

In a distinct echo of the tactics they pursued to encourage U.S. intervention in the Balkans and Iraq, a familiar clutch of neo-conservatives appealed Friday for the United States and NATO to "immediately" prepare military action to help bring down the regime of Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi and end the violence that is believed to have killed well over a thousand people in the past week.

The appeal, which came in the form of a letter signed by 40 policy analysts, including more than a dozen former senior officials who served under President George W. Bush, was organized and released by the Foreign Policy Initiative (FPI), a two-year-old neo-conservative group that is widely seen as the successor to the more-famous – or infamous – Project for the New American Century (PNAC).

Warning that Libya stood "on the threshold of a moral and humanitarian catastrophe", the letter, which was addressed to President Barack Obama, called for specific immediate steps involving military action, in addition to the imposition of a number of diplomatic and economic sanctions to bring "an end to the murderous Libyan regime".

In particular, it called for Washington to press NATO to "develop operational plans to urgently deploy warplanes to prevent the regime from using fighter jets and helicopter gunships against civilians and carry out other missions as required; (and) move naval assets into Libyan waters" to "aid evacuation efforts and prepare for possible contingencies;" as well as "(e)stablish the capability to disable Libyan naval vessels used to attack civilians."

Among the letter's signers were former Bush Deputy Defense Secretary Paul Wolfowitz; Bush's top global democracy and Middle East adviser; Elliott Abrams; former Bush speechwriters Marc Thiessen and Peter Wehner; Vice President Dick Cheney's former deputy national security adviser, John Hannah, as well as FPI's four directors: Weekly Standard editor William Kristol; Brookings Institution fellow Robert Kagan; former Iraq Coalition Provisional Authority spokesman Dan Senor; and former Undersecretary of Defense for Policy and Ambassador to Turkey, Eric Edelman.

paul craig roberts sums it up nicely...
The United States government cannot get enough of war. With Libyan dictator Moammar Gadhafi’s regime falling to a rebelling population, CNN reports that a Pentagon spokesman said that the U.S. is looking at all options from the military side.

Allegedly, the Pentagon, which is responsible for one million dead Iraqis and an unknown number of dead Afghans and Pakistanis, is concerned about the deaths of 1,000 Libyan protesters.

oh, yeah, we're SO-O-O-OOO concerned about the deaths of libyan protesters...

The fraudulence of the "War on Terror"

nothing we don't know already...
The fraudulence of the "War on Terror," however, is clearly revealed in the pattern of subsequent facts:

  • In Afghanistan the state was overthrown instead of apprehending the terrorist. Offers by the Taliban to surrender Osama bin Laden were ignored, and he remains at large to this day.
  • In Iraq, when the United States invaded, there were no al Qaeda terrorists at all.
  • Both states have been supplied with puppet governments, and both are dotted with permanent U.S. military bases in strategic proximity to their hydrocarbon assets.
  • The U.S. embassy nearing completion in Baghdad is comprised of 21 multistory buildings on 104 acres of land. It will house 5,500 diplomats, staff and families. It is ten times larger than any other U.S. embassy in the world, but we have yet to be told why.
  • A 2006 National Intelligence Estimate shows the war in Iraq has exacerbated, not diminished, the threat of terrorism since 9/11. If the "War on Terror" is not a deception, it is a disastrously counterproductive failure.
  • Today two American and two British oil companies are poised to claim immense profits from 81 percent of Iraq's undeveloped crude oil reserves. They cannot proceed, however, until the Iraqi Parliament enacts a statute known as the "hydrocarbon framework law."
  • The features of postwar oil policy so heavily favoring the oil companies were crafted by the Bush administration State Department in 2002, a year before the invasion.
  • Drafting of the law itself was begun during Paul Bremer's Coalition Provisional Authority, with the invited participation of a number of major oil companies. The law was written in English and translated into Arabic only when it was due for Iraqi approval.
  • President Bush made passage of the hydrocarbon law a mandatory "benchmark" when he announced the troop surge in January of 2007.
but it never hurts to keep things like this exposed to the full light of day...

Lagniappe and Tin-foil Hats

[note: i've bumped brother tim's post up to today because of the important points he raises... prof marcus]

Lagniappe - (lan'-yap) n. Something extra; something not bargained for.

As I read the different Liberal/Progressive Blogs, the word that seems to come up the most is, 'Why?'.
  • Why does the MSM sit virtually silent, while this criminal Administration rapes and pillages our Treasury?
  • Why does Congress, both House and Senate, sit idly by as our Constitution is being shredded beyond all recognition?
  • Why are they all complicit in the machinations of the Bush Administration?
  • Why did they pass Bush's Military Commission Act, stripping the right of habeas corpus?
  • Why did they pass the Neo-con's Patriot Act? (The name is apropos, as it will be used to arrest and detain true 'Patriots'.)
  • Why do they allow kidnappings, secret renditions, secret prisons, and torture? (All in violation of the Constitution or Rule of Law)
  • Why do they continue to allow domestic spying and illegal wire-tapping?
  • Why do they allow this Administration to flagrantly violate the Constitution and the Rule of Law?
  • Why do they talk tough, yet carry a wet noodle?
  • Why do they not enforce their Constitutionally mandated powers of oversight, and checks and balances?
  • Why do they give Bush anything he wants, and take anything he chooses to give them?
  • Why isn't the MSM voicing any outrage over the aforementioned abuses of power?

Why??????

WHY??????

I believe the answer is quite simple, and hidden in plain view. It's a matter of not seeing the forest for the trees.

The answers they all use as sound-bytes and talking points just don't hold water, nor do they stand up to muster. Some of the most frequently heard are:

  • The Democrats don't want to be seen as vengeful, or playing partisan politics. (Although we've just witnessed 12 years of Republican control of Congress and six and a half years of this Republican Administration doing exactly that)
  • The Republicans don't want to stray too far from the RNC Party Line (read PNAC - Neo-con/Fascists)
  • We have to move forward slowly. (Slowly is a relative word, we have to move faster than the perpetrators of this criminal behavior)
  • Stoopid bloggers have got their tin-foil hats adjusted too tight.

Lets out tin-foil hat one notch.

Feels better.

Domestic spying and illegal wire-tapping have been going on pre 9-11. The few reports you get, lead you to believe that, even though they claim to target only terrorists, they can also target John Q Citizen.

But John Q Citizen is just 'lagniappe', something extra; something not bargained for. The prime targets may well be the Senators and Representatives; the Corporate Media Heads; or anyone deemed an 'enemy'.

Sounds far-fetched??????

Google 'J Edgar Hoover' if you don't remember how he was able to remain Director of the BOI/FBI for 48 years; the Grim Reaper being the only one that could remove him. Kennedy tried, but, 'No Cigar'.

A conspiracy of this type is not all that difficult to execute, as it feeds on itself as it grows.

Legalities have little or no meaning, because the nature of the information obtained is most likely, illegal as well. Possible prosecution/imprisonment and the loss of assets and career are more than enough to be made to 'play ball', and not cry 'foul'.

An Administration that will treasonously out a covert CIA Operative, will not think twice about taking out a Congressman...........or a Media Head.

The PNAC cheerleaders for death and destruction

i think it's important to keep track of those whose primary professional and career efforts have involved leading their country down a certain ideological path... it's clear from booman's much-appreciated research on these folks, namely the signatories to the pnac statement of principles, real accountability for the horrors they've been the cheerleaders for has yet to be felt...
  • Dick Cheney- Vice-President of the United States.
  • Midge Decter- When she isn't partying with Conrad Black she is busy being the wife of Norman Podhoretz and mother of John Podhoretz.
  • Frank Gaffney- Doing weird shit as Center for Security Policy president.
  • Donald Kagan- Sterling Professor of Classics and History at Yale University. His son, Fred, is the author of The Surge.
  • Zalmay Khalilzad- U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations. He has already served as ambassador to Afghanistan and to Iraq.
  • I. Lewis Libby- awaiting sentencing for perjury, making false statements, and obstruction of justice.
  • Peter W. Rodman- recently left as Assistant Secretary of Defense for International Security Affairs to take a job at the Brookings Institute.
  • Stephen P. Rosen- the Beton Michael Kaneb Professor of National Security and Military Affairs at Harvard University.
  • Henry S. Rowen- appointed on February 12, 2004, by President George W. Bush to be one of the "final two members of the Commission on the Intelligence Capabilities of the United States Regarding Weapons of Mass Destruction." He's also a member of the Department of Defense's Defense Policy Board.
  • Donald Rumsfeld- the less said the better. He was fired as Secretary of Defense.
  • Paul Wolfowitz- shit-canned from the World Bank.

in a just world, which is, hopefully, somewhere around the corner, they will be confronted with the consequences of their beliefs and the actions they took to make them reality...
