Libby's Future

Almost every President has used pardons to take care of their own. Once in a while, they even pardon somebody who deserves it, although I can't site an example. I expect Little Georgy to be no different, but he will probably need to shatter the previous record for number of pardons used. Dick's list alone must be enormous. I think the commutation is just an interim step, a little KY before the big screw.

Bush Won't Rule Out Full Libby Pardon
By MATT APUZZO
Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON - President Bush on Tuesday left open the possibility of an eventual pardon for former White House aide I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby. "As to the future, I rule nothing in and nothing out," the president said a day after commuting Libby's 2 1/2-year prison term in the CIA leak case.

This is one cloud that AIN'T goin' away

(thanks to think progress...)

when bill kristol looks in the mirror, is there a reflection...? i think not...
In this week’s Weekly Standard, editor Bill Kristol writes that Bush must pardon Libby immediately. “If the president does intend to pardon Libby, there is no reason to wait,” he writes.

Asked to comment further on his editorial, Kristol claimed this morning that pardoning Libby would remove the “cloud hanging over his White House and over the war.” He added that if Bush waits, “Fitzgerald will keep repeating that there’s a cloud over the White House, and Bush will be passive, and it will demoralize his supporters.”

here's the cloud over the white house... this is one cloud that AIN'T goin' away...

John Aravosis: "It's a done deal, Libby is getting pardoned."

i hope he's wrong...
It's a done deal, Libby is getting pardoned. Hell, I'd be surprised if he doesn't get a medal. No one, no one, no one is ever held responsible for anything in this administration, and if George Bush has to put the final nail in the coffin of his political legacy by pardoning Libby, trust me, he will. It's a tale of lawlessness. Of an adminstration that thinks it's holier than thou. Holier than the laws of this great country, holier than the courts, the Congress, the Constitution. Nothing gets in the way of a zealot, and Scooter Libby is just the latest zealot in a long line of Republicans in the Bush White House and Congress who simply don't believe in the rules that govern our country, our society, and our world.

And they're finally getting caught. Scooter will most certainly be pardoned, but nothing will wipe away the taint the next two years will leave on the Republican party for a long, long while.

but he's certainly right about this - "...no one is ever held responsible for anything in this administration..."
