Bush is confident that Gonzo will continue to shield him and Karl

george w. bush, defending gonzo...
This is an honest, honorable man, in whom I have confidence.

i think bush firmly understands just how devastating gonzales' departure would be for him personally... yes, the speculation has it that george is shielding rove, but i think it's got a lot more to do with protecting bush's own ass...
Gonzales' testimony Thursday left senators convinced he wasn't behind the plan or its execution and in fact knew far less than a department head should have about the details. Former and current members of Gonzales' staff who've been interviewed by congressional investigators also have said their roles were limited or nonexistent.

Absent another explanation, the signs point to the White House and, at least in some degree, to the president's political adviser, Karl Rove.

did rove have a hand in it...? is the pope a catholic...? does a bear shit in the woods...? but it's the same old accountability story... rove only "serves at the pleasure of the president," and it's george who is ultimately accountable... such a simple concept and so studiously being resisted...
