Exit polls say Cristina won 46%, enough to avoid a runoff election
looks like the hillary of the southern hemisphere pulled it off...
Argentina's glamorous first lady, Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner, on Sunday became the first woman in her country's history to be elected president, exit polls said.
The data, broadcast immediately after polling stations in Buenos Aires closed, suggested she had won 46 percent of the ballots -- enough for her to be declared the outright victor without a runoff.
The runner-up, on a distant 24 percent, was a former lawmaker and beauty queen, Elisa Carrio, according to poll figures given by television networks TN and Cronica. The other 12 candidates trailed even further behind.
Official figures were due to be released at 9:00pm (0000 GMT Monday).
