Biden proposes 9/11-type commission for prisoner abuse

this oughta set off some fireworks when it comes up for debate... it's undoubtedly the LAST thing bushco wants to see put in place...

the legislation introduced by biden, titled ”The Targeting Terrorists More Effectively Act of 2005,” includes a provision to establish a commission, in structure and mandate identical to the 9/11 commission, that would

"specifically investigate whether individuals may have played a policy-making role in setting conditions for detainees, and examine frequently-reported differences of opinion between the Pentagon's civilian leadership and senior members of the armed forces. Its scope would be government-wide, thus including the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA).

[The] legislation would establish a national commission to examine the role of policymakers in the development of intelligence related to the treatment of individuals detained during Operation Iraqi Freedom or Operation Enduring Freedom, and the impact of the abuse of prisoners by the U.S. personnel on the security of the armed forces.

the bill may come before the senate foreign relations committee in a couple of weeks, allowing for a decent period of mourning after the john bolton funeral... (i hope...!)
