Update on Argentina and the IMF

Argentina, which is trying to finalize a mammoth sovereign debt restructuring, has asked the IMF to let it postpone repayment of some maturing debt, a spokesman said yesterday. "Argentine authorities have made a request for the extension of repurchase expectations (into obligation)," [IMF] spokesman Thomas Dawson told a regular press briefing. [...] "This will be considered by the executive board in due course," he added. It was reported on Wednesday that the government had decided to postpone payments totalling US$1.45 billion coming due this year because of tight cash flow.
Dawson declined to elaborate.
