Do you feel a draft...?
i definitely feel a draft...
while i am an ardent opponent of my country's militaristic mindset and our pattern of aggressive, interventionist, and often murderous behavior on the world stage, i do happen to believe that we all should be required to contribute at least a small portion of our lives to the common good... i totally support mandatory national service if, and only if, it is not limited to just military service... and, for that matter, it does not have to be limited to just national service... both genders working together to make the united states and the world a better place...? i could get behind that... "There's no question in my mind that this president and this administration would never have invaded Iraq, especially on the flimsy evidence that was presented to the Congress, if indeed we had a draft and members of Congress and the administration thought that their kids from their communities would be placed in harm's way," said Rep. Charles Rangel, a New York Democrat.
Rangel, a veteran of the Korean War who has unsuccessfully sponsored legislation on conscription in the past, said he will propose the measure early next year.
At a time when some lawmakers are urging the military to send more troops to Iraq, "I don't see how anyone can support the war and not support the draft," he said.
