One paper - two views

i have to laugh... here's the nyt, in a sunday edition editorial, harrumphing about blogger ethics and suggesting that perhaps

"the most prominent blogs with the highest traffic shouldn't hold themselves to the same high standards to which they hold other media . . . [and that] . . . the real reason for an ethical upgrade is that it is the right way to do journalism"

then we have frank rich, same edition, observing that

"Infotainment has reached a new level of ubiquity in an era in which 'reality' television and reality have become so blurred that it's hard to know if ABC News's special investigating "American Idol" last week was real journalism about a fake show or fake journalism about a real show or whether anyone knows the difference - or cares."

admittedly, blogs are an emerging medium and the concept of citizen journalism is emerging right along with them... what the nyt conveniently chooses to ignore is the all-important question - WHY are the blogs taking off...? WHY are so many folks, myself included, spurning the msm and searching for news (and truth?) in alternative media...? could it be that facts, truth, objectivity, news, solid journalism, and credibility have gone missing from the msm...? oh, did i mention ethics...? oops...
