But, c'mon, George is really TRYING to be reasonable, isn't he?

ok, look... we need to clarify something here... "efforts to reach out" can only be considered such if they are < cough, cough > GENUINE, like AUTHENTIC, or, gosh and golly, SINCERE... george is only going through the motions, nothing more... it's the same goddam crap that he's done since he took office - going through the motions, and then only because somebody (like karl rove) has told him that he needs to to keep up appearances, the appearance, in this case, of a president that is willing to engage in dialog, even though in reality he isn't willing to engage in shit... like everything else george bush has done as president, sitting down with reid and pelosi is only subterfuge, an attempt to create a grand illusion of reason and civility, but it's all a horrible lie... it's the worst kind of lie because it makes it so terribly difficult for the traditional media to call him on it, because, after, he is TRYING, isn't he...?

Bush's Relations With Capitol Hill Chilly

Every few weeks, President Bush invites House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), and Harry M. Reid (D-Nev.) Senate Majority Leader and their GOP counterparts to the White House for a discussion of Iraq and other issues of the day. By the accounts of those in the room, the meetings are gracious, formal -- and rarely productive. (D-Calif.), Senate Majority Leader

Sitting at a table in the Cabinet Room, Bush generally offers an opening statement, turns to Pelosi and then Reid for their views, and usually gives Republicans the last word. Vice President Cheney often sits in, saying nothing. There is usually little genuine back-and-forth before the leaders emerge for a media stakeout outside the West Wing.

god, it makes me want to puke... and why does cheney have to be there...? he must be serving as a check that george stays on script...
