let's get really, really real... this is a president out of control... when bush can assert that, in a time of war (which, apparently, will be for the rest of our natural lives and very likely those of our children as well), he can, as commander-in-chief and in the name of national security, override any and all laws on the books, we are in extremely deep shit as a country... Rather than give Congress the opportunity to override a veto with a two-thirds majority in each house, he has issued hundreds of signing statements invoking his right to interpret the law on everything from whistleblower protections to how Congress oversees the USA Patriot Act.
