Anything electronic, no matter what it is, is being collected by your government

like i've repeatedly said, i resigned myself some years ago to the fact that every electronic transaction, every electronic communication, and every piece of electronic data that i generate in the course of my daily life is subject to being logged and tracked... perhaps "resigned" isn't the right word but, in the face of the seeming impossibility of doing anything to stop it, i am at a loss for another one...
The Departments of Justice, State, and Homeland Security spend millions annually to buy commercial databases that track Americans' finances, phone numbers, and biographical information, according to a report last month by the U.S. Government Accountability Office, the investigative arm of Congress.

because i'm relatively sure that my data is collected in automated fashion and subjected to data-mining and intelligence profiling techniques, i figure the sheer innocence and banality of my existence allows me to remain a mere statistic... i find it especially unnerving, however, to know that, for whatever reason, should "someone" take an interest in me, there is enough data out there to write a fairly comprehensive book...
