When recess appointments go bad [CORRECTION]

just keep two words in mind - j-o-h-n b-o-l-t-o-n...
Senate Democrats this week sharply criticized President Bush's decision to install Julie L. Myers, a White House official, as head of the nation's immigration enforcement agency despite concerns on the part of some about her qualifications for the job.

[...]

On Wednesday, Mr. Bush bypassed the Senate confirmation process and used his power of recess appointment to install Ms. Myers as director of the bureau, which is part of the Department of Homeland Security. The department's secretary, Michael Chertoff, praised Ms. Myers, saying that she possessed "the experience, judgment and determination" necessary for the job.

words of praise from a fellow hack hardly constitute a ringing endorsement...

as i posted the other day, julie myers was among 17 recess appointments that bush signed off on the other day for a total of over 500 so far during his term reign... bush's capacity to abuse presidential power is evidently boundless...

[CORRECTION]

my bad... i had 500 on the brain but the number unfortunately didn't refer to recess appointments... it referred to the number of interpretive statements made by george bush in connection with the signing of bills passed by congress... here's the correct recess appointment statistics...
Ronald Reagan made 243 recess appointments during his two terms in office; George H. W. Bush made 77 during his single term. Clinton made 140 recess appointments over two terms. As of 1 August 2005, Bush has made 106 recess appointments.

add the 17 and you've got 123...
